The call comes after the former North Ballarat Rebels changed their name to Greater Western Victoria Rebels in order to more appropriately represent the junior club’s catchment area.
Mr Nevett said a successful name change would have major benefits for the long-term viability of the club in the semi-professional competition.
“There’s been discussions at all levels...that the time has come for the Roosters as they exist in the VFL to exist in a competition where they are identifiable through the western region of Victoria,” Mr Nevett said.
“In the near future that has to be addressed, and if you get it right all of a sudden there’s this pathway from the South Australian border to Ballarat, (because) it’s not North Ballarat, it’s a regional Roosters working out of Ballarat.”
