Some brides would prefer to leave their wedding make-up to a close friend or do it themselves, as this will save money and ensure there are no drastic transformations.
Regardless of whether you hire a professional or not, your wedding day will be one of the most photographed days of your life. You want to put your best face forward, so here are some common make-up dos and don’ts:
Do go with what you know
You still want to look like yourself on your wedding day, so do not try any new trends. Remember, your husband has chosen you to marry – make sure he recognises your face.
Have a make-up trial
It’s an extra cost, but is worth it as if you are not happy with the trial then you have the opportunity to seek out other options or even a new stylist.
Waterproof all your make-up
If you are doing your own make-up then you will probably know to use waterproof mascara. However it is also a good idea to wear waterproof foundation as if you get a bit teary, you don’t want streaks down your face where your foundation used to be.
Don’t forget your eyebrows
Your eyebrows have the ability to change the entire look of your face. Have them professionally waxed a week before the wedding and even consider using a little brow powder to enhance their natural shape.
According to hair and make-up artist Lucia Caldarelli from Les Couleurs Studio, two very different looks are trending this year: a glamourous looks with bold red lips, liquid eyeliner and lots of contouring, and a natural, chic, boho-inspired look, with just a touch of colour on the lips and softer eye liner.
Airbrushed make-up that is applied with an airbrush gun is popular as it sits on the top of the skin and isn’t absorbed during the day, meaning it hides pores and wrinkles for longer.
Depending on a bride’s skin tone, rose gold, metallic, and shimmer are also strong make-up trends this year.
Lucia says braids and messy chignons are great hairstyles to accompany a natural look, while loose, Hollywood waves are the best option for a more glamourous bride.
Veils are increasingly being replaced with jewellery or fresh flowers in the hair, either as a crown or incorporated into the hairstyle.
