Just months out from another world championships campaign, it’s a little strange that champion race walker Jared Tallent isn’t solely focused on his preparation.

Instead, there’s another important event on the horizon.
Tallent and wife Claire are expecting their first child – which has been confirmed as a boy – in the coming weeks.
“Obviously that’s going to change life a lot in the next few weeks,” Tallent, who was in Ballarat for a WestVic Academy of Sport event on Friday afternoon, said.
“I’ll spend more time at home leading up to the world championships.”
Tallent said he won’t race much in the lead-up to the titles – to be held in London during August – but will train accordingly to be ready for his main event, the 50km walk.
“Normally at this time of year we would probably head overseas and do some races to get prepared, but obviously I can’t do that,” he said.
“I know what I have to get done in training and as long as I hit the key marks in training, I’ll be right.”
