South Yarra jumped out of the blocks with two goals in the first 15 minutes, demonstrating why it is the number one team in the league and remains undefeated.
By half-time the score was a grim 7-0 in what looked to be a tough return for the Strikers after a week off.
But after the break, the Strikers came out with intention and managed to outscore the visitors two goals to nil in an effort full of promise.
Strikers coach Laura Brady praised the team on the character it displayed in the second half and noted that greater defensive organisation was the cornerstone of the turnaround.
Brady made special mention of Eliza Clayworth, who pressed her claim for a spot in the starting line up.
She also said Alyson Pym would spend more time in defence after playing a pivotal role in shoring up the back line, and noted Natalie Barbara demonstrated her development as a leader throughout the match.
Lisa Dodds was the first scorer for the Strikers in the 64th minute, while Pym hit the scoreboard at the 70th minute.
The match fell on Pink Sports Day, with the Strikers dressed in coloured socks to raise awareness and money for Breast Cancer Network Australia.
The Strikers, still looking for their first win, next take on Keilor Park at Keilor Park Recreation Reserve.
Eighth-placed Keilor Park sits just above the Strikers on the ladder with one win and three losses, after defeating the bottom-placed Preston Lions this week, and will look to defend its position.
Meanwhile in the reserves, a third-placed South Yarra defeated Strikers four goals to nil.
The Strikers’ reserves team sit in fifth position with two wins, a draw and a loss.
