Victims of Crime Commissioner Greg Davies has called for more jails and harsher sentences at a Liberal party-led law and order forum in Ballarat on Thursday.

The forum, chaired by Western Victorian MP Josh Morris, was attended by about 30 people. The group was addressed by Shadow spokesperson for Police, Community Safety and Corrections Ed O’Donohue and Shadow Attorney General John Pesutto.
“The only guarantee that anyone in this room has got that a particular violent sexually predatory criminal is not going to do to you or your loved ones any harm is when they’re in jail,” Mr Davies said.
The opposition looks set to run their 2018 election campaign on a platform of law and order.
Mr Pesutto said is elected the Liberal Party would commission law and order legislation “within weeks or a small number of months” of their election. Plans include mandatory minimum sentencing for repeat offenders who commit violent crimes.
