Ms Young said this was an issue that impacted all females in the region.
“At any age, all of us experience forms of sexism,” Ms Young said. “In a way we want other girls to not worry about being judged. We’ll look at different ways we can do this, for example, like the (Australian Government) Girls Make Your Move.”
The Project has been bringing in guest speakers from across the region and community organisations to help spark ideas among participants on ways they can make a difference in their own community.
Participants’ project brief is broad, allowing them to pursue the issues they are most passionate about.
Ms Young, a Ballarat Grammar student, has volunteered in programs like Clean Up Australia or the Salvation Army’s Red Shield Appeal. She said the Leadership Project allowed her to pursue an issue in real depth and to help build her confidence as a leader.
