Changes have already been rolled out including on streets near the city’s two major hospitals.
Ballarat mayor Samantha McIntosh said council had helped parking for employees at Ballarat Base Hospital through a $2.4 million grant for its multi-level car park.
“If it is because of cost, I have been told staff can salary sacrifice (for a car park),” she said.
“The community told us they want short term parking available for residents, they want trees protected.
“What is the hospital doing to ensure their staff are using appropriate spaces we have given to them?
“I would rather pay for car parking than a ticket – if we can provide reasonable and fair parking rules then people will use it.”
The hospital did not respond to requests for comment before The Courier went to print.
