The stage at Her Majesty’s Theatre is raked or sloped, with the biggest rake of any stage they dance on, and those who perform on it must adapt.
Ms Moore, 19, has performed on the stage many times before but this is her first time performing in Ballarat as part of the Australian Ballet Regional Tour.
“It means when you dance you have to put your weight in a different place. If you stand too far forward you could start to fall: it’s like dancing on a hill.”
The ballet arrived in town yesterday to prepare for two performances of the romantic Giselle at Her Majesty’s on Saturday.
It’s a homecoming and role reversal for Ms Moore – the last time the Australian Ballet performed here she was a student dreaming of one day dancing with the prestigious company.
Today she is on the stage as a member of the Australian Ballet Regional Tour in their production of the romantic Giselle.
