In what was a free-flowing opening half, all four goals were scored in the first period before things tightened up in the second half.
Victory scored from its first foray forward, finding the back of the net after four minutes. Josh De Voogel drew a penalty, Shaun Romein converting from the spot. Nelson Salvatore then put City in front for a 2-1 lead within 15 minutes. Melbourne equalised shortly after, which proved the final score.
Coach Danny Gnjidic said his group just struggled to finish off some of its good work.
“Our boys were disappointed not to have won, we saw it as two points dropped rather than a point gained,” Gnjidic said.
“We were able to get in behind them on a number of occasions, but just lacked that final part of it.”
