The BTC confirmed the news on Wednesday, with the up-and-coming horseman set to move his business to the Miners Rest complex in October.

Freedman will follow in the footsteps of the likes of Archie Alexander, Matt Cumani, Henry Dwyer, Pat Cannon and Nick Smart, who have all moved their training bases to the region in recent times.

Freedman said it was important for the continued growth of his business that he moved to a place with first-class training facilities and proven record of producing winners.

"The Ballarat Turf Club are providing me with a fantastic stable complex. I will have 35 stables, a 12-horse walker, treadmill, sand roll, day yards etcetera at my disposal. And the location is perfect with easy and safe access to the training tracks," Freedman said.

"With a broad range of training tracks, availability of an outstanding stable complex and BTC’s commitment to the continual improvement of training facilities, Ballarat fits the bill perfectly.

"Ballarat is also an easy commute to the metropolitan racetracks as well as being in close proximity to the racecourses on the western side of the state.

"Training from Ballarat will enable me to give my horses every possible chance of success."

BTC chief executive Lachlan McKenzie said Freedman's decision to move to Ballarat was great for the club.

"We pride ourselves on what we can offer to our trainers and the success that this brings," McKenzie said.

"There is no doubt in my mind that Mitch will be one of Victoria’s leading trainers in the near future and we are delighted that he has chosen Sportsbet-Ballarat as the base for the next step in his career."

Freedman obtained his trainer's licence in 2013 and has worked from his property at Crossley, which is close to Warrnambool.

He has trained 69 winners in that time.

Before starting his own stable, Freedman had stints with Ballarat’s Andrew Payne, Dan O’Sullivan and Darren Weir.

Freedman was foreman at Weir's Warrnambool stable and worked closely with top gallopers such as Puissance De Lune, Platelet and May's Dream.
