Former North Ballarat Rooster Steve Clifton has been awarded VFL life membership at the league’s best and fairest presentation on Monday night.

The three-time premiership player for the Roosters was drafted to Greater Western Sydney in November 2010 before returning for a second stint at North Ballarat in 2013.
Clifton became the first Rooster in the club’s history to become a dual JJ Liston Trophy winner, taking out the top award in 2010 and 2013.
The powerhouse onballer returned to Lake Wendouree, the Ballarat Football League club where his football career started, in 2014 in what was one of the club’s biggest signings.
Rebels coach Gerard FitzGerald coached Clifton through the Roosters golden era which brewed three consecutive premierships from 2008-10.
FitzGerald spoke glowingly of Clifton, not just his football ability, but as a person – calling Clifton one of his “football sons.”
“One of the great things about coaching is you get to spend time with quality boys like Cliffo,” FitzGerald said.
