10 OUT OF 10: Retired Western Bulldogs champion Chris Grant thrilled a bumper hometown crowd with a 10-goal haul in a once-off appearance for Daylesford in the Central Highlands Football League on Saturday.

SPURRED on by retired AFL champion Chris Grant, Daylesford defeated Bungaree by 56 points in the Bendigo Bank Central Highlands Football League at Daylesford on Saturday. The Bulldogs lifted a gear to help and Grant booted 10 as he farewelled his home club with a 16.11 (107) to 7.9 (51) win.Ben Leske was handed the job of marking the full-forward but Grant's experienced at the elite level proved too much to handle. The Western Bulldogs champion had seven goals to his name by half-time and spent half of the third term on the bench. At the other end of the ground Bungaree targets Bryce Nicholson and Matt McDonald were well held as the Demons matched Daylesford in the midfield. Both sides broke even during the first term with Daylesford taking a narrow lead into the break. But the second quarter belonged to Grant as he kicked four goals in a matter of minutes and had a hand in the others. After half-time Bungaree came out with renewed determination but Daylesford weathered the storm and kicked two goals to none in the third quarter. The Demons continued to rally until the final siren with Sam Buchanan, Scott Quinney and Joe Carmody leading the way while playing coach Jayden Reid worked hard all over the ground.Nathan Wemyss finished the game on Chris Grant and restricted him to just three goals in the second half. For the Bulldogs Luke and Joel Adams amassed possessions together while Scot Winduss dominated the ruck, aided by Jack Savige."Obviously (Daylesford's) class is in the midfield and they had the man to finish it off," Reid said."We're fairly happy to be at five (wins) and two (losses) at the break."Daylesford coach Darren McColl was impressed with his players' commitment after suffering a loss to Waubra last week."The way we went about it was great _ we knew what we wanted to prove," he said."We are at the end of our tough month and if we can get past Learmonth we will be in good shape."The Bulldogs make the trip to the undefeated Learmonth after the league bye while Bungaree will look to regroup against Clunes.
