He reached three figures in a 263-run fourth wicket partnership with Jason Sangha for a Cricket Australia XI on the last day of a four-day fixture.
Short, who was captain, brought up his century with three runs off the spin of Moeen Ali.
The 22-year-old faced 190 balls, hitting eight fours and a six.
He went onto reach an unbeaten 134 (11 fours, 1 six) off 264 balls as the Australian Xi reached 4-364 in the drawn match.
Short and Sangha, 133, from NSW came together at 3-87 after the loss of three wickets in the space of seven runs.
Short, who played his junior cricket with East Ballarat, top scored in the first innings with 51.
This was only Short’s fifth first class game and the third time he had gone past 50.
Short is yet to play for Victoria in the Sheffield Shield, but with the Bushrangers yet to win in three rounds this performance will give selectors something to think about.
He is again in the Melbourne Renegades squad for the upcoming Big Bash League.
