Police at the scene said the boy’s bicycle was struck by a taxi on the corner of Sherrard and Foley Crescent outside the preschool around 8.30am.
Bystanders rushed to the boy’s assistance, but he was not badly injured.
He was taken by ambulance to Ballarat Base Hospital for observation.
A police officer attending said it was a timely reminder about bicycle safety, especially around busy schools at pick-up and drop-off times.
There were around 40 vehicles in Sherrard Street at the time of the accident.
