Although warm and humid weather is forecast for most of the day, there is a chance the heavens could open towards the end of Ballarat’s biggest social outing.
The mercury is expected to reach a maximum of 29 degrees.
But by the time the actual Ballarat Cup is run (4.40pm), we could find oursleves in the midst of a thunderstorm as it sweeps across Victoria.
According to Weatherzone meteorologist Kim Westcott, a storm could hit Ballarat any time between 3pm and 8pm.
Although storms can be hard to predict, Ms Westcott expects the the rain to come “thick and fast” if it does find its way to Dowling Forest.
“For the morning and the early stages of the afternoon it will be okay, maybe a bit a humid,” she said.
“There could be some storms hit later in the afternoon though. It might come pretty thick and fast if it does hit.
“You might want to go find a good pub to sit inside for a bit if the storm comes.”
The Weatherzone forecast says there is a 70 percent chance of rain, with rainfalls between 5-10mm.
And the forecast for Springest Market Sunday?
It will be slightly cooler with a top of 24 degrees and there could be the odd shower.
