DUST off the bells and clear your throats. A 61-year-old sister city relationship is still being heard loud and clear.England had a drastic food shortage after the end of WWII and Ballarat came to the rescue of Peterborough in Cambridgeshire.Yesterday Peterborough town crier Pearl Catewell continued to show how grateful the English town was, meeting with Ballarat town crier Bruce Whykes and Ballarat Mayor Stephen Jones.Ms Catewell first journeyed to Ballarat in 1991 and is on her fourth trip back."She missed the 60th anniversary of the sister-city relationship but specifically came out for the memorial to Neville Stonehouse," Ballarat crier Bruce Whykes said.Mr Stonehouse was one of Australia's most famous town criers."Pearl had a message from the mayor of Peterborough and the ancient and Honourable Guild of Town Criers which is the equivalent of the Australasian Guild of Town Criers."Mr Whykes has been a town crier for more than 20 years and is still in demand."It comes and goes in patches, I recently did the Melbourne Day celebrations," he said."I was on my way home and I stopped for some food while in costume. One lady asked me to do her wedding and another asked me to do her daughter's wedding."
