A CFA media spokesperson said emergency services were called about 12.30am with fire brigade units on scene 11 minutes later.
He said six tankers, two pumpers and a specialist transport vehicle attended the fire from Ballarat, Mount Warrenheip, Bungaree, Glen Park, Ballarat City and Mount Buninyong fire brigades.
The fire was under control about 1.15am, with police on scene about 1.10am.
However, the final fire brigade vehicle did not return to the station until about 4.50am.
The CFA media spokesperson said he did not know of any injuries and there had been no damage to any other property.
While the outer brick walls of the house were left standing, the inside of the house has been completely destroyed.
The house was located just off the Western Freeway close to Brewery Tap Road and John Deere’s Cervus Equipment Ballarat dealership.
