Primary school pupils who cook up a storm every Thursday have impressed the Leadership Ballarat Western Region Leaders Forum so much they returned for seconds.
Yuille Park Community College assistant principal Brett Shillito said the school’s café was an initiative to help children gain lifelong skills with real world experience.
“It’s about them being able to build some confidence and about connecting with people they don’t normally connect with like community members,” he said.
“The kids are doing the cooking, they’re creating the meals, they’re putting it all together and working closely with staff.”
Leadership Ballarat alumnus Warwick Smith said it was great to see how happy it made the children.
“I saw one of the girls and she walked past with a friend of hers...(she had) a big smile on her face and she goes to her friend and says, ‘see I told you I can cook,” Mr Smith said. “The pride on her face was amazing.”
The public can visit the café on Thursdays from 11am to 2.30pm.
