Police allege Cameron Hay was one of four people who travelled to Mellbourne in a black Toyota Cruiser on November 30.
Senior Constable Brett Eden told the Ballarat Magistrates Court on Friday Hay and co-accused Anthony Scott, Ruby Davoren and Zane Pfeiffer were in the vehicle.
He said the group stopped at Richmond while Hay and Scott met an unknown male in a side street before returning to Ballarat.
Senior Constable Eden said police executed a search warrant at a Mt Pleasant property the following morning on December 1 at 9.05am.
He said a number of people inside the Saunders Close home, including Hay, Scott and Pfeiffer, were separated and searched by police.
The court was told Davoren was allegedly found sleeping in the back seat of the Cruiser, which was parked outside the property.
Senior Constable Eden said police located a black leather case stored in an air filter under the vehicle’s bonnet, which contained 121 grams of a white crystal substance, $350 cash, a necklace and ring.
He said a loaded handgun was found in an internal panel in the rear of the vehicle, noting Hay and Scott returned from Melbourne with a large amount of cash and the black case.
Senior Constable Eden said the six-shot cylinder handgun was ready to fire.
Police opposed Hay’s bail application, saying he had been charged with trafficking a drug of dependence which put him in a show-cause situation.
They were concerned he would re-offend and was an unacceptable risk to the safety of the community.
Defence lawyer Ron Davis challenged aspects of the prosecution case and said his client was not found with drugs and he had no prior convictions.
Magistrate Ron Saines granted Hay bail with conditions he live at a static address, report to police one day a week and he not use drugs. He will return to court on January 18.
