Sisters Brooke and Jamie, and best friend Emily, all started their tertiary education at different universities doing different courses but were unhappy and found their original course choices were not what they actually wanted to do.
So the trio, who live in Melton, applied through VTAC to study nursing and received an early offer for their preferred course at Australian Catholic University’s Ballarat campus.
Emily, 19, studied health science at Latrobe University last year and, having now transferred to ACU, wishes she hadn’t stressed so much about her first round university offer last year.
“I couldn’t stand sitting in traffic any more, I didn’t enjoy the course and it was such a massive uni. I didn’t have any motivation to know any more and nursing had been on my preference list last year so I applied for it,” she said.
“It’s really easy to change and they didn’t even take my ATAR in to account, they just looked at my uni exam results.
”I was stressed about uni offers last year but … I shouldn’t have worried because you can change your mind 100 times and end up where you want to be.”
Jamie, 18, had been studying a diploma in sport but realised she was more interested in nursing.
“Nursing is very challenging and you can potentially save lives, which suits me. I’m hoping to study some units overseas, and having my sister and friend for support will be awesome,” she said.
