Sydney Festival director Wesley Enoch, who opened the exhibition at the University of NSW, had expressed interest in hosting the exhibition even before it opened at the Ballarat Mining Exchange in August.
An opening night crowd of about 1000 people enjoyed more than 60 works from 17 indigenous artists, curated by Palawa woman Jessica Clark.
The collection features works from indigenous artists, highlighting new photographic technologies and techniques to tell the stories and the experience of life as an indigenous person.
“Even though I love it in the Mining Exchange, and that is its home, it’s great to see the works are strong enough to travel to a traditional contemporary gallery without losing anything,” said BIFB director Fiona Sweet.
