Ballarat boy Michael Trigger will return to Ballarat City after a stint at Heidelberg United in the National Premier League’s top tier.
Trigger left during last year’s mid-season transfer window, scoring eight goals from his four outings, but will now return to his junior club in what coach Danny Gnjidic described as a “huge plus” for the club.
When the dynamic forward departed, it left City searching fro answers up front. His ability to score goals from just about any distance makes him extremely dangerous – his five-goal performance against Bendigo last year underlining his capabilities.
Having the talented forward back in the side will be an enormous boost to City’s hopes on the eve of the National Premier League two west season.
He is another great example of the quality footballers that Ballarat is producing and was keen to play for his club in his hometown and we were just as keen to have him back.Ballarat City coach Danny Gnjidic
Gnjidic was excited to welcome Trigger back into the fray.
“Michael experienced unprecedented success at Heidelberg last season and he will now provide our team with an attacking flair and creativity that we hope can bring us some success as well,” Gnjidic said.
‘He is another great example of the quality footballers that Ballarat is producing and was keen to play for his club in his hometown and we were just as keen to have him back.
“If he can continue on with that sort of form this season then we are all in for an exciting year ahead.”
In what has been a fruitful off-season, Trigger joins Josh Romein, Daniel Tinker, Nelson Salvatore, Patrick Karras, Shaun Romein and Liam Harding back at Morshead Park.
"The re-signing of the majority of our senior playing group is important for the stability and ongoing development of our club.
“They are keen to be part of something with this club and achieve success and I think that speaks for volumes for not only everyone involved at Ballarat City but also to the players and the quality of individuals they are.”
