Three-year-old trotting filly Amour de Frere laid the foundation for a big season by taking out the group 1 $60,000 Need For Speed Princess final at Melton on Saturday night.

The daughter of French-bred sire found the lead for reinsman Nathan Jack and always had the feature in her control as she completed a group winning double for Ballarat trainer Anton Golino.

Ima Bourbon Girl ($3 favourite) saluted in the group 3  $20,000 Breed For Speed Silver Series final, 1720 – also leading withj Jason Lee oin the sulky.

Amour de Frere ($2.20 favourite) used her early speed from a wide gate to set up her third consecutive and take her career standings to four wins in eight outings for $55,000.

She will now be set for age classics in New South Wales before returning to Victoria.

The group 1 $50,000 NSW Trotters’ Oaks on May 5 is her next major target, possibly followed by the NSW Trotters Derby a week later.

Then follows the $60,000 Victoria Trotters Oaks on June 2 ahead of the $75,000 Victoria Trotters Derby at Maryborough on Redwood Day on August 5.

Ima Bourbon led home a stable trifecta for Golino with Parisian Amore and Courchevel filling the minor placings as the stable sent 15 runners around on the all-trotting program.

He also had group 1 thirds with 3yo colt La Grange and open age mare Fiery Mountain Girl.

Golino’s double repeated his effort at the same meeting last year when he had a group 1 trifecta and also won another feature.
