The next generation of young female scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians could be among 30 students who took part in the first enrichment and engagement event at Ballarat Tech School.
The program combined International Women’s Day celebrations with looking at inspirational women, women working together, and a focus on the Antarctic with guest speaker Colleen Filippa who travelled to the icy continent in 2016.
Girls took part in networking activities, looked at future careers and took part in STEM related activities around the Antarctic theme.
Problem-solving skills were honed as the girls took place in an Amazing Race-style hunt solving STEM problems, learning about the new school, exploring evolution and using team work to come up with innovative solutions.
“Students really love the space they are in because it’s very different to what they are used to, and they love having access to things they might not have at school,” said Ballarat Tech School director Sofia Fiusco.
