Artists Luke Parker and Rachael Bott have spent the past 12 months searching for old aerial photos of Ballarat, and replicating them using a drone.
Many old photos found online, in libraries and some in collections in Melbourne were taken from high points in Ballarat, like the Town Hall and the post office tower. Others were taken from fire towers or buildings that are no longer there.
Skyline Drone Imaging artist Luke Parker said it could take up to 40 minutes to get one replica photo perfectly aligned.
“I have certainly learnt a lot about the old Ballarat,” he said.
“A lot of the images are of buildings that are no longer there. This photo would have been taken on a film camera some time in the 1800s, whereas now we can undo our box, launch a drone, take a photo and put it on photoshop.”
Skyline Drone Imaging’s show Ballarat from Above will be projected onto the white wall above Eureka House and the Commonwealth Bank from the other side of Sturt Street.
