A sad day for Ballarat.
The loss today of the platforms at the eastern end of the 1860’s Bluestone Goods Shed at the Station is the start of a process which will be regretted in years to come. This is no thanks to our Government who have not listened and also to our Councillors who continue to pay lip service to the important role that Heritage plays in the City but gave planning control of the site to the Minister for Planning.

The full potential of what could and should be the jewel in the city’s heritage crown is not looking good.

The first Save Our Station Public meeting for 2018 will be held at the Provincial Hotel this Saturday 24 March at 10am. The battle for a 21st-century transport hub for Ballarat is ongoing and needs your continued support.
As many people are aware, SOS Ballarat is campaigning for a 21st-century fully integrated all-abilities accessible transport hub at our central rail station, with adequate car parking for commuters into the long-term future. Not a subsidised “block of flats”’ that the current Andrews government thinks is appropriate. We still live in hope that the Andrews government will listen and that the new Labor candidates for Wendouree and Buninyong, and Liberal candidates, yet to be announced, will have a voice and demand this outcome.
The people of Ballarat deserve better. Like so many development projects undertaken by the Andrews state government, the Ballarat Station redevelopment has been poorly conceived, ineptly executed and favours a developer ahead of the public.
The Andrews state government is spending $550 million on upgrading the Ballarat–Melbourne rail line and redeveloping the Ballarat Station with apartments, some retail and a small meeting space and expects us to congratulate it when this proposal delivers less car parking, no all-abilities access, gives away our land and heritage buildings, and compromises the ability of the precinct to meet future demand as Ballarat's key transport hub.
This battle for our rail station transport hub is not over. Please join us and support this community initiative.
