Girl Talk show at Karova Lounge on Wednesday night can only be described as epic. There were almost 300 people crammed into the venue, pushing up against the stage to watch mash-up DJ Gregg Gillis (aka Girl Talk). The Pittsburgh native was in Ballarat for one show only as he toured Australia as part of the Laneway Festival Tour.Tickets to the show sold out in minutes last November and fans holding the highly coveted passes were not disappointed. His laptop took centre stage and just seconds after he started playing, the stage was already crowded with eager fans.Karova quickly turned into a sauna, the ceiling-fans doing little to cool the room, as security squirted water onto crowd. It wasn't long before Gillis began to remove some clothing _ a stage antic he's famous for _ and the guys in the crowd followed suit, sweat dripping off them as they pumped their fists to the beats. The music never stopped. Track after track was effortlessly mixed into what seemed like an endless set and the crowd chanted out their favourite lyrics when Gillis played tracks from his latest album Feed The Animals. After the show there was a stampede for the front door as people gasped for fresh air.I cooled down outside for a few moments before heading back to get a drink and was lucky enough to meet Gillis.Despite the hundreds of fans that had been screaming his name and reaching out to touch him only minutes earlier, he was composed and down to earth, smiling for photos and signing autographs. This is going to be an extremely tough act for Karova to top.
