The two clubs had a mediation session at Ballarat’s Saxon House on Friday, with the Bombers hoping to have Barrenger free to play in their season opener against Springbank on Saturday.
But after both parties discussed options, the Grasshoppers’ committee decided to again deny Barrenger his transfer.
This was the final step before the matter heads to an AFL Victoria appeal.
Barrenger is being tied to Rokewood-Corindhap because of a contract he signed with the club for the 2018 campaign.
He has been training with Buninyong during the pre-season in the hope of pulling on the red and black this year.
Rokewood-Corindhap will take on Learmonth this Saturday, while Buninyong meets Ballan.
