The eisteddfod will take place at seven different venues across Ballarat, with entries open in 13 disciplines until April 26.
The 670-seat Founders Hall at FedUni’s Mount Helen campus will replace the 144-year old Her Majesty’s Theatre, which is undergoing deterioration prevention works and safety upgrades.
Royal South Street Society chief executive officer Brett Macdonald said Founders Hall had the advantage of ample parking and many dressing rooms.
“We always knew that Her Majesty’s Theatre was really important to what we do, because people love the prestige of performing there and the history,” he said.
“It is going to make our year a little more difficult, but the show must go on, and Founders Hall will be our home away from home.”
New categories include contemporary ballad, Christmas carols in the choral competition, and a Dance for Life section.
