Police pursuit reached 150kmh

POLICE have appealed for witnesses after a high-speed pursuit at Meredith at the weekend.Speeds of up to 150kmh were allegedly reached along narrow back roads during the chase, which was eventually called off near the Lal Lal State Forest. By the time it finished, the pursuit lasted about 20 minutesPolice want to speak to the driver of the white Toyota Hilux ute involved in the incident.Meredith police officer, Senior Constable Mick Rooney, said the ute was seen leaving the Meredith Hotel at about 1.50am on Saturday.Three passengers were believed to be on board at the time.An attempt was made to get the ute to pull over along the Mt Mercer Rd, before a chase began near Bamganie Rd.It continued onto the Midland Hwy, Clarendon Blue Bridge Rd and then along wet and muddy bush tracks in the Lal Lal State Forest area.Sen Const Rooney said he lost sight of the vehicle in the harsh conditions.He said the Toyota Hilux ute had an aluminium tray with no sides, a roof-mounted spotlight and a large white sticker in the rear window which read `Mudmuncher'. "It is not a local vehicle. It is believed to have come from either the Buninyong or Ballan area," Sen Const Rooney said."He (the driver) has endangered the lives of his passengers."Anyone who has seen the Hilux utility in the Meredith or Ballan area is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Meredith Police on 5286 1222 or they can visit www.crimestoppers.com.au
