The Geelong man swerved to miss a kangaroo on Gumley Road near the intersection of Rokewood-Shelford Road at about 9pm.
The man lost control of his Suzuki Swift just after a bend on the gravel surface, causing the car the to flip.
He was able to phone a family member who then contacted emergency services.
The driver was taken to Geelong University Hospital by road ambulance in a stable condition with arm injuries.
Bannockburn Leading Senior Constable Kirsten Towers said the incident was a timely reminder of the challenges of driving on gravel roads.
“You’ve got to be really vigilant with your speed on this surface, particularly because there’s lots of ‘roos around at the moment,” Leading Senior Constable Towers said.
