The Vikings secured a 2-1 win over Point Cook thanks to a Will Georgiou goal in the 83rd minute.
Coach Corey Smith was extremely pleased to come away with three points on the road without playing to its optimum level. But to succeed in FFV state league three it is going to have to do that.
Smith knew if his side could hang in long enough against Point Cook, chances would come.
“They probably edged us in possession and creating chances today, but the reality is we have something that they don’t and that’s determination and ability to stay in games,” Smith told The Courier.
“We stayed in the game long enough to give us a chance, we know against Point Cook they’ll always give you chances late.
“We certainly weren’t at our best today.
“But overall our performance was disciplined and hard-working.”
Point Cook kicked the first after 18 minutes before Lee Stevens equalised after 32.
Smith said his group handled a fiery opposition crowd well and responded in the best possible manner.
“They poked the wrong bear.
“It’s always been a pretty friendly rivalry...but today some of their crowd antics summed up why we got the points – we were solely focused on the football.”
The Vikings have taken seven points from its last three outings and has adjusted nicely to its step-up in league.
