Mr Miles, who works as a carpenter for his father’s Ballarat company, Miles & Co Builders, was recently named one of just three national winners of the Australian Overseas Foundation, which offers opportunities to further skills overseas.
“It’s a great opportunity, I’m planning to head over to Denmark later in the year,” he said. “I’ve got a few contacts over there, so I’m really looking forward to it.”
Just over 300 people have won the AOF award in the 60 years it has been running. It aims to give young vocationally trained Australians an opportunity to develop their skills and when they return home, they can invest in local industries.
Mr Miles studied at Federation University and his teachers Ross Firth and Michael Kent recommended him for the award.
He recently finished a personal project which saw him working on the refurbishment of a 100-year-old home in central Ballarat.
