Hundreds of veterans, school children and residents have commemorated Anzac Day at an emotional service at held at Sebastopol.

The service included a heartfelt speech from former Ballarat Mayor Judy Verlin, who spoke about what it was like to be a mother with a son in service, proved a moving experience for those in attendance.

The commemoration also included a tribute to 101 year-old Corporal George Prolongeau who served in New Guinea.
Mr Prolongeau said he had been a Sebastopol boy all his life and he was very proud of the turn out for the special day.
RSL President Bryan Nicholls said it was an important event.

“To me, this is our national day, Anzac Day is incredibly special to all Australians,” he said.
A series of crosses representing all Sebastopol residents who have served in war and subsequently died was also laid at the back of the cenotaph.
“We have several hundred of the crosses here and they’ve just been redone, so they are looking wonderful here today,” Mr Nicholls said.
