Roy injured a knee in the Devils’ one-point win over Bacchus Marsh in the Ballarat Football League on Saturday, while Kennedy aggravated a gluteus problem in the grand final rematch at Maddingley Park.
Devils coach Heath Scotland said Roy was expected to have the knee scanned on Thursday.
Kennedy is also still waiting for a full diagnosis on an injury which arose from a training incident.
Scotland said he still held fears that Roy had damaged his anterior cruciate ligament, which had the potential to end his season.
He said Kennedy was 50-50 at best of lining up against Melton at Darley on Saturday, but at this stage was more likely to miss.
Scotland said he did not want to take any chances and see Kennedy out for an extended period.
The Roy and Kennedy injuries are also potential setbacks for the the BFL’s AFL Victoria Community Championships’ clash with Goulburn Valley at the MCG on Saturday, May 19.
Roy was set to play for the Navy Blues last year before being a late withdrawal, while a fit Kennedy would be among the first invited by coach Shaun O’Loughlin to the part of the campaign.
Kennedy captained the BFL against the Western Region league when he was last in the competition in 2016.
Darley will also be without youngster Matt Young for the Melton clash.
Young accepted a set suspension of two matches for having made head high contact with the Cobras’ Jacob Chisari, who was ruled out of the remainder of the game with concussion.
Young initially planned to take the report to a tribunal hearing, but had a change of mind.
He also aggravated a shoulder injury in the game and even without a suspension would have been looking at time out.
Premiership player Mark Hansen and comeback player Ryan Coster (a 2015 premiership player) are among possible call-ups with Jordan Spiteri, who was close to selection in the opening round.
