The former North Melbourne player’s injury took the shine off the Eagles’ big win over Central Highlands Football League reigning premiers Hepburn.
Richardson was carried from the field and transported in an ambulance after landing awkwardly in the final term.
There were initial fears he had sustained a break, but Gordon coach Ron Watt said scans have revealed only ligament damage to the ankle.
“He just jumped off the ground and leapt at a ball, landed awkwardly and that was it,” Watt said.
“At least it’s not a break, which is probably preferable.”
Richardson, who played eight games with North Melbourne in the AFL, is now in his second year with Gordon, which he joined following a premiership-winning season with Bacchus Marsh in 2016.
Eagles big man Angus Watts was the other major injury concern for the Eagles on Saturday afternoon.
The coach said Watts required stitches after an opponent’s teeth accidentally created a serious gash to the back of his head.
Gordon’s win-loss ledger is now at 2-2 heading into next Saturday’s clash against Waubra, while Hepburn’s first defeat of the campaign leaves it in eighth spot on the ladder moving towards next weekend’s round five blockbuster against Buninyong.
After round six, the CHFL breaks for interleague competition on May 19.
