We do need a financial injection to shore up our future and also upgrade the facilities.
- Robert Moore - Midlands Golf Club acting general manager
In late 2017 the club revealed its intentions to sell an 11-hectare block of land which sits near the corner of Heinz Lane and Creswick Road.
Earlier this month the club along with developers Villawood Properties lodged a planning application with the City of Ballarat to convert the site into a 106-home housing estate.
While the block has previously been used as a driving range, it has largely sat vacant in recent months.
Midlands acting general manager Robert Moore said the cash generated from the land sale would go towards implementing upgrades across the club, which will be set out in a master plan over the coming months.
He said the club hoped to see development at the site begin “as soon as possible” once planning permits were granted.
“What we’re aiming to end up with down the track might take four or five years, but this whole facility at the moment is starting to look tired and so we will be looking at a significant upgrade of the facilities here,” Mr Moore said.
“We do need a financial injection to shore up our future and also upgrade the facilities so people can come and enjoy what we’ve got.”
The staged development which overlooks the club’s 14th fairway will provide plots between 560 and 648 square metres across the block.
The land which backs onto Bogong Avenue has been valued at $5 million and already falls under residential zoning.

Villawood Properties executive director Rory Costelloe said he anticipated construction would begin by spring this year and the majority of the development would be completed by the end of 2020.
About 32 plots fronting onto the golf course will be released as part of the stage one development.
