BALLARAT'S Shane Nankervis has returned home following victory at the Perth City to Surf Half Marathon on Sunday. The 35-year-old long-distance runner claimed the top honours in one hour, five minutes, 51 seconds _ a time he believes "stacks up well" due to the tough conditions of the course."I'm happy with the time, (but) time was irrelevant. I just wanted to win," Nankervis said.Nankervis' performance keeps him on track to secure a place in the Australian team for the marathon at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi. The physical education teacher said he was likely to tackle the Melbourne half-marathon next month, possibly the City-Bay (12km) in Adelaide and the Zatopek 10km track event before heading to Japan to try to run inside the Australian marathon qualification time prior to the Games."I think in the form I am in at the moment I could probably run 2.14hr (marathon qualification time)," he said."I think I'm definitely capable, it just depends on the day and barring injury."Nankervis said due to his age, his tilt at the Commonwealth Games team was probably his last chance of making an Australian team.Nankervis reassessed his goals after finishing second at the Gold Coast Marathon in early July, believing he was still capable of securing a place in the national team.
