Ella Wood, Georgia Clarke, Lauren Butler, Nyakoat Dojiok, Rene Caris, Sophie Molan and Sophie Van De Huevel have all been selected off the back off impressive TAC Cup form. The Rebels’ girls have enjoyed a strong season so far, posting five wins from its eight matches to sit fifth on the ladder ahead of its final round clash with Oakleigh Chargers. AFL Victoria Female Talent Manager Darren Flanigan said the championships provided players a great opportunity to showcase their talents in front of AFLW recruiters.
“The academy program provides players with the perfect opportunity to test themselves against the best players at this level, and start to showcase their capabilities to recruiters for the upcoming AFLW draft later in the year,” Flanigan told taccup.com.au.
“Draftees such as Darcy Guttridge, Eden Zanker, Bridie Kennedy and Maddy Guerin all performed well at the 2017 championships, which certainly helped their draft chances later in the year.
“It is a great learning experience to be part of the under-18 academy program, learning from other players and coaches in the competition.”
Vic Country will play its first game of the championships at GMHBA Stadium, Geelong on Saturday June 16 against the Vic Metro side. They will play their other matches on July 9, 11 and 13.
