Paul Schiavone was driving in Elaine, outside Ballarat, on October 9 when he was detected speeding at 140km/h with an alleged speed of 130km/h in a 100km/h zone.

Police stopped Schiavone driving to find he had no number plates on his vehicle, his vehicle was unregistered and he had the drug ice in his system.

He pleaded guilty to the charges at the Ballarat Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Representing himself, Schiavone said he had been in jail five times for driving offences and he had had enough.

"My missus gave me the ultimatum. We've just had a baby. It was either go to jail or do the right thing," Schiavone said.

"Five times in jail is enough."

He said drug use had been a problem in his life but he had addressed this through counselling over the past four months.

Magistrate John Bentley told Schiavone his driving history was appalling with numerous prison and suspended prison sentences for driving while disqualified.

He warned Schiavone he would be going to prison if he continued to reoffend.

Schiavone was ordered off the road for six months and fined $1000 with conviction.
