The mural on Main Road’s Catfish Thai was designed and painted by artist Travis Price, representing the colourful history of the street.
Mr Price said it received plenty of attention and became a “conversation point” on Heritage Weekend.
“The whole idea was to kind of put up these references that people think are mistakes but actually aren’t,” he said. “People go, "Why is that wrong, is that wrong?” then they’ve got to do their research.”
But it was panic stations on Friday night when the artist realised the gold paint he’d picked wasn’t for external use.
“It was a real killer because it was going to be the main wow factor of the wall,” Mr Price said. “But luckily from Karl’s sign-writing background, he said we could use a certain signwriter’s paint. One 11pm phone call later, and then I sent my mum down to Melbourne on Sunday for a five-hour round trip.”
