More than 70 pupils from six local primary schools came together at the Ballarat Regional Soccer Facility this week to learn from author Claire Saxby in the first workshop of the Ballarat Young Authors Program.
The high-achieving primary students from grades four to six have been identified as talented writers with the schools coming together to pool resources and create the workshops to enrich their learning.
The program was held for the first time last year and returned after positive feedback from teachers, parents and the young writers.
“We noticed that their growth within the schools was really strong. Sometimes you find that high-achieving students can plateau a bit and this is another opportunity to … recognise them as talented writers and push them out of their comfort zone,” said program coordinator and Delacombe Primary School principal Scott Phillips.
