On Saturday, it was East Point to come away with the points after a tight contest for the full four quarters of the Ballarat Football Netball League clash at Eastern Oval.
The Kangaroos led early, before North Ballarat City fought back to be in front at the main break, but the Kangaroos again got the upper hand in the latter stages of the game to win 43-40.
North Ballarat City sits just outside the top four and will be hoping for a better result when it meets third-placed Lake Wendouree next week.
Meanwhile, Bacchus Marsh continues to impress as the season’s surprise packet, securing a fifth win from seven games to remain inside the top four.
The Cobras defeated Redan, 49-40, at Maddingley Park on Saturday.
Bacchus Marsh coach Michael Saker said the team’s focus had been on a strong start, with players comfortable maintaining the lead.
“That’s pretty much what happened,” Saker said. “The girls got out to three goals and we just chipped away every quarter to win every quarter by two or three goals.”
The Cobras were determined to defeat the Lions with a tough month ahead.
“Last year they touched us up in the last round and it was one of our danger games,” Saker said.
Some of the Cobras’ improvement has come from the goaling end stepping up.
“Our goalers are playing a lot more selfless and picking the right options,” Saker said.
