The city’s much-loved lanes will glow with colour during Laneway Lumieres, part of the Ballarat Winter Festival.
Seven local artists, three musicians and sound and light engineers have combined to produce illuminated artworks and soundscapes that will change the look of the laneways.
The Laneway Lumieres will see McKenzie St, Hop Lane, Police Lane and Alfred Deakin Place transform from dusk to dawn from June 30 to July 29.
The Ballarat DubStep synchronised immersive music and illumination show, will see illuminations and lights flash to live music every hour, on the hour in Alfred Deakin Place and Police Lane.
With less than 10 days to go before the switch is flicked on the illuminations and effects, artists spent time on Wednesday installing their creations.
“There were so many beautiful elements of our city – such as laneways like these - which were once considered undiscovered and underutilised, now it’s wonderful to see these places brought to life and being explored by many,” said Ballarat mayor Cr Samantha McIntosh.
The Laneway Lumieres will run daily during the Ballarat Winter Festival from 5pm to midnight, with the DubStep booming out on the hour from 5pm to 10pm.
The popular pop-up ice skating rink will return from June 30 to July 15, and the Winter Wonderlights spectacular will again colour the historic streetscapes of Sovereign Hill.
