In a sneak peek behind the scenes, the airy and open spaces Stockland Wendouree Shopping Centre has long been promising are taking shape before the long awaited redevelopment opening on Thursday.
Construction workers are keenly focused on the new casual dining precinct, the final major step in the project.
Externally walls to the centre give a taste of the fresh vibe that awaits inside, with a tilt to Ballarat’s iconic Lake Wendouree precinct and beloved bevies of swans. This theme carries through to the inclusive play spaces, quiet rooms and walkways inside.
Stockland Wendouree centre management are encouraging shoppers to stay tuned for a host of bargains and deals for a grand opening weekend in a week’s time. Celebrations will include live cooking demonstrations with celebrity chef Miguel Maestreand a Lego City interactive zone for children.
Ballarat MP and Labor federal health spokeswoman Catherine King, who toured redevelopment works on Thursday morning, said the $37 million project was a great feature for the region but importantly, in promoting an inclusive community.
“The thing I really like about this project is that the centre will be improving the experience for kids with autism, being able to provide quiet areas also for people who have dementia,” Ms King said. “...We have lots of active ageing and walking groups that participate here. It’s a great place to come.”
Woolworths will be first to open on Thursday at 7.30am.
