The 21-year-old broke into the Roosters' seniors in round 16 and notched up six VFL senior matches, including three finals. His pace, slick disposals and fearlessness through the midfield quickly made recruiters take note and Smith was a late call-up to AFL state combine.Smith's story created a buzz in the media but Smith was taking it in his stride, just like he had all year."My father and housemate have been loving it (media attention) and it's been all right," Smith said."I'm just hoping a few from Ballarat get selected."Smith has been to busy to think about the draft amid university exams, work, finishing an internship and getting his tonsils out.He will watch the draft unfold with family and friends in Albury.GERARD FITZGERALD (Roosters coach) SAYS: "He's a great story and highlights our model in Ballarat — boy from Cootamundra who comes to Ballarat because of university and played with a very good local club which helped assist his transition to the VFL. He displays AFL attributes."
