Saturday presented an opportunity for WestVic to move the top of the table, but it fell behind early and was unable to recover.
PEGS scored twice in the opening 16 minutes of play before WestVic Hockey midfielder Alex Hall got one back on the eve of half-time.
PEGS’ Peter Roberts scored twice in quick succession in the second half, despite WestVic having its fair share of the momentum.
Trailing 4-1, WestVic rallied and got reward for its dominance of play. Bryce Robinson and Zach Lahn scoring to cut the margin back to one goal, but time ran out for the home side and PEGS walked away with a valuable three points.
With six rounds to go, Saturday’s loss brought an end to five-game winning streak.
WestVic remains entrenched in the top three, with a four-point buffer on fourth-placed Old Xaverians.
The WestVic women also endured a similarly poor start, conceding three goals in the opening 11 minutes, while managing just one of its own.
WestVic trailed 4-1 at half-time, the only goal of the second half coming in the final six minutes from the stick of Tessa Noone – Tammy Hansford the other WestVic scorer.
The loss makes WestVic’s top four bid extremely difficult, sitting in sixth position – eight points off fourth spot.
