With three rounds remaining in Hockey Victoria’s men’s league one, WestVic is in third spot and cannot miss the finals.
Saturday’s result was a pleasing one given Mornington is knocking on the door of the top four and WestVic was without a number of its star players with six representing Victoria at the Australian Country Championships in South Australia.
Michael Churcher did the damage for WestVic, scoring both of the side’s goals.
Scores were tied at half-time, before WestVic again took the advantage.
Desperately defending, WestVic was unable to hold-off Mornington, the equaliser coming with two minutes remaining.
Meanwhile, the WestVic women’s side suffered a 4-1 loss to Mornington and sits in sixth position.
