Living in Ballarat for six years, Mr Beale said it was time for Ballarat to “believe” in itself and garner government funding to ensure city’s potential is realised.
Mr Beale said priorities for the city remained a 59-minute or below commuter train service between Ballarat and Melbourne, rail duplication and a convenient airport link through Sunshine.
“For me, they’re still as new, still as important, and becoming more important,” he said.“And if you look at what can possibly come from the Sunshine rail link, renewables, with the hospital development, and the private businesses off that … we’ve got more opportunities than we’ve got people to fill them.”
He replaces Janet Dore, who stepped down from her role on August 8.
“Janet has been an absolutely unrelenting in her advocacy at every level of government and on all sides of politics. She’s been outstanding,” Mr Beale said.
