Imported stayer Kings Will Dream firmed in betting after an eye-catching first-up at Caulfield on Saturday.
The 2015 Melbourne Cup-winning trainer now has imported stayer Kings Will Dream at the top of the markets for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups.
Kings Will Dream tightened from $17 to $13 with the TAB with fourth in the group 2 Sir John Monash PB Lawrence Stakes, 1400m – a run which impressed Weir.
Having his first start since winning the Mornington Cup in March, the five-year-old was clearly the best of Weir’s six runners in the $200,000 event.
Kings Will Dream stretched his unbeaten run in Australia to five in the summer and autumn to stamp himself as a big spring prospect.
He is now ahead of Chestnut Coat $15, Withhold $15, Magic Circle $17 and Torcedor $17 at the top of Melbourne Cup betting.
Kings Will Dream also firmed from $8.50 to $5 for the Caulfield Cup, for which he already held favouritism.
While John Allen was on Kings Will Dreeam on Saturday, champion jockey Craig Williams will ride him in the Caulfield Cup.
Meanwhile, three Japanese imports from Weir’s Ballarat/Warrnambool stable galloped between races in Ballarat on Sunday as he builds towards spring..
Admire Robson, Cassius and Tosen Basil have only been in Australia for three weeks and not long left quarantine at Werribee.
"We don't know a lot about them. We've found out a little bit about them today and they got to experience a little bit of what goes on at our races,” Weir said.
"It was very important for the future."
A decision when the trio will begin their campaigns will be made after they compete in jump-outs at Warrnambool on Friday.
Admire Robson and Tosen Basil are Caulfield Cup hopefuls, while Cassius will be aimed at sprint races over the spring.
"Tosen Stardom will be on a path to the Caulfield Cup, but how we get there I'm not sure," Weir said.
"Admire Robson will be aimed towards the Naturalism Stakes and then we'll work it out from there."
